We’ve had a majority of liberal leadership in Washington for the last two years, and more and more law-abiding gun owners are exercising their Second Amendment rights by regularly carrying loaded handguns.
It’s no wonder; murder and other violent crime rates across America continue to skyrocket, so the number of gun carriers just keeps increasing.
There was a study published this month by the American Journal of Public Health. The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of loaded handgun carriers among adult handgun owners overall in the United States and state by state.
According to the study, the number of Americans who carry a loaded handgun every day doubled in just four years. There are about 6 million people in America who legally carried daily in 2019; this compares to 3 million in 2015.
And in the past month, there were 16 million adults who carried a handgun in the past month; this compares to 9 million in 2015.
The study also revealed that gun owners have changed the main reason for owning at least one firearm from hunting to personal protection. In 1994, almost half of gun owners used their weapons for protection primarily. But that number rose to 65% by 2015, 73 percent by 2019, and 83 percent by 2021. There is no doubt that the number will be even higher in 2022.
According to Information from the American Journal of Public Health, it reinforced the results transcribed by Blaze Media. They found that “4 in 5 carried primarily for protection, 4 in 5 had a concealed carry permit, 2 in 3 always carried concealed, and 1 in 10 always carried openly.”
There was not a great difference in the results of handgun carrying in states with permitless carry laws and states with shall-issue carry laws.
What will the numbers be like when the GOP is back in the majority?
Another important question is “Why has the number of Americans carrying increased so dramatically?”
The simplest answer is that there are a record number of Americans who no longer feel safe due to the prevalence of random murders and other violent crimes. The Democratic leadership has failed to prove the kind of justice that protects us in America. Their politics and laws have protected convicted felons and repeat offenders.
Americans Not Feeling Safe With Rising Crime Numbers
The study that was done recently cited the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 ruling in June of 2022. It struck down a New York state gun-control law that required firearm owners requesting a concealed carry license to demonstrate “proper cause.”
This implies that protecting my loved ones from getting shot and killed is not enough of a “proper cause.”
Think about all of the abused wives who believe that their estranged husband will not stop until she is dead. Isn’t that a “proper cause?”
The SCOTUS ruling against New York actually said, “On June 23, 2022, the Supreme Court ruled that New York’s proper-cause requirement violates the Fourteenth Amendment’s guarantee of equal protection under the law by preventing law-abiding citizens with ordinary self-defense needs from exercising their Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms in public for self-defense.”
This ruling is already impacting states like Alabama. On January 1, 2023, that state will become the 22nd state that will not require a permit or background check to carry a concealed weapon. People are looking toward to the day when that will be the case in all 50 states in the country.
This will be difficult because leaders like President Joe Biden take time off the TV to talk about statements calling for additional bans of firearms for law-abiding citizens.
The truth is that people are making their desires known by their felt need to carry.
