After nearly six weeks of anticipation, Vice President Kamala Harris, who replaced President Joe Biden at the top of the Democratic ticket, is finally set for her first interview.
Danielle Alvarez, Trump 2024 campaign senior advisor, joined the ‘Fox & Friends First’ show to discuss the 2024 election status as polls indicate the race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris is tightening.
Former President Trump is weighing in ahead of time on Vice President Kamala Harris’s first interview since she replaced President Joe Biden at the top of the national Democratic ticket.
In a social media post Thursday morning, Trump called for CNN to conduct a “fair but tough interview” of VP Harris. If that happens, the former president argued, “it will expose her as being totally inept and ill-suited for the job of President.”
Since succeeding her boss as their party’s presidential nominee almost six weeks ago, Harris has been riding a wave of vibes, momentum, and enthusiasm in fundraising and polling.
However, she’s held off from sitting for a major interview or holding a news conference — until now.
That’s brought continuing incoming fire from Trump, his Republican vice-presidential running mate JD Vance, allied Republicans, and the Trump-Vance campaign.
“She can’t answer questions,” Trump said earlier in the week as he took questions from media during a campaign stop in northern Virginia. “Why doesn’t she do something like I’m doing right now?”
He also claimed the vice president “can’t talk. We can’t have another dummy as a president.”
On the campaign trail, Vance has repeatedly argued that the vice president “is running a basement campaign where she refuses to go before the free press and actually answer their questions.”
Firing back, Harris’ campaign has charged the Republican ticket is “ducking and dodging questions.”
“Trump is Stumped and Vance Dances: GOP Ticket Dodges and Lies Through Every Question from Reporters,” read the title of a Monday email from the Harris campaign to reporters.
Harris and Walz are set to sit down for a CNN interview Thursday
VP Harris and her running mate, Democrat Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, are set to sit down with CNN’s Dana Bash Thursday afternoon before her headlining a rally in Savannah, Georgia, a crucial battleground state. CNN said the interview would be televised later in prime time.
“The Vice President of the United States has mustered enough stamina after 40 days to finally sit down for a joint interview to finally have a conversation with reporters to lay out what we hope to be her vision for America,” said Corey Lewandowski, Trump campaign senior adviser, to reporters hours before the interview.
“It is no coincidence though that Kamala and Tim’s first interview is transpiring on the Thursday before a long weekend because we know their desire, even though the interview hasn’t occurred yet, is to bury the news of how disastrous their policies are going to be on this great country,” claimed Lewandowski.
Before the interview, former President Trump and his allies emphasized questions they want to see Bash ask Harris. Heading their list, they urge the vice president to be asked why she has changed positions over the past few years on significant issues, including crime, border security, and immigration.
