According to lead epidemiologist Dr. Anthony Fauci, a third COVID-19 shot may be required to keep your fully-vaccinated status.
“I happen to believe as an immunologist and infectious disease person that a third-shot boost for an mRNA [vaccine] … should be part of the actual standard regimen, where a booster isn’t a luxury,” Fauci said, according to the New York Post.
Fauci continued, “A booster isn’t an add-on and a booster is part of what the original regimen should be. So that when we look back on this, we’re going to see that boosters are essential for an optimal vaccine regimen”
These remarks came just as several states expanded their booster shot eligibility to all adults who have been previously vaccinated.
Previously, booster shoots were only available to residents over 65 years of age or immuno-compromised.
Backtracking
After he suggested that boosters may be necessary for the ‘fully-vaccinated’ status, Fauci soon backtracked, claiming that may not be the case.
“If you look at the data that we have, fully vaccinated right now, by definition, is the original two doses [of] … Pfizer and Moderna and a single dose with [the one-shot Johnson & Johnson],” stated Fauci.
Fauci continues, “We’re going to be doing the best we can to keep the American public optimally protected. If that means that that’s going to be a boost that absolutely everyone will have to have, then so be it, we’ll do it that way.”
These statements reveal that a third booster shot may be necessary in the future, however not at the current moment.
In many states, residents must be fully-vaccinated to access bars, restaurants, and other places of entertainment. This may cause issues for residents who believed they would only need two shots to travel freely around their city.
Public split
This matter is obviously extremely split in terms of public opinion.
Vaccine mandates have proven to be one of the most divisive topics in American history, and it is not slowing down. Sweeping vaccine mandates have been blocked in court as conservatives fight hard for medical freedom.
Many conservatives are not fond of being forced to take an infinite number of boosters to be able live normally.
Additionally, they believe that mandating a booster shot sets a bad precedent for future boosters.
Conversely, left-wingers believe COVID is enough of a threat to set aside their freedoms for the moment.
